Extra Cash in A Sharing Economy

Connecting Amanda Palmer, Airbnb, Kurt Cobain, & You

Don’t you think that some of Airbnb’s success should be credited to Amanda Palmer (The Art of Asking) since she was sharing or should I say “couch surfing” long before Airbnb started disrupting the lodging industry?

A few years ago, not wanting to pay premium hotel rates, my wife booked a room through Airbnb where she attend a conference in Charleston, South Carolina.

Her host was a real estate professional who rents out two rooms in her home for additional income. If available, she will also shuttle you back and forth to the airport for an additional fee. This sideline business provides her an additional $20,000 a year.

Once her neighbors learned how well she was doing, they began renting rooms as well.

Do you have an extra room in your home? Would you be willing to rent it out to add to your income stream? This is a great way for many to supplement income.

Check out Airbnb’s site for details and earnings potential in your area.

If you would like to give Airbnb a spin first, you can rent Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love’s old apartment!
